The Executive Council of ISESCO, during its 29th annual session held in Rabat (Morocco) from July 2 to 5, 2008, appointed Mr. Jean-Paul Carteron Ambassador of ISESCO for the Dialogue between Cultures and Civilizations.
Granting this distinction to Mr. Jean-Paul Carteron, Founder of the Crans Montana Forum, the ISESCO meant to reward his efforts and activities for the promotion of the Dialogue between Civilizations in the framework of the Union for the Mediterranean.
For the third year, the Crans Montana Forum organised from June 26 to 29, the symposium on the Dialogue of Civilizations under the Chairmanship of Mr. Abdulaziz Othman Altwaijri, Director General of ISESCO and Mr. Federico Mayor, Co Chairman of the UN High Level Group for the Alliance of Civilizations and former Director General of UNESCO.

Jean-Paul Carteron

Mr. Carteron, a Swiss citizen, studied at the University of Paris (France). He is an Honorary Member of the Paris Bar Association. M. Carteron was awarded with the highest honours in France (Chevalier de la Légion d’Honneur, Chevalier de l’Ordre National du Mérite, Conseiller du Commerce Extérieur de la France), in Europe (Medal of the President of the European Commission, Medal Pro Merito of the Council of Europe) and around the World (numerous official distinctions). Starting 1986, M. Carteron founded the Princely Fondation du Forum Universale, the Forum de Crans Montana, the Council on World Public Affairs, the Académie de la Paix, the Homeland & Global Security Forum and the CMF Graduate Institute of International Studies. He is Co-Founder and Member of the Fondation Européenne Titulescu. Mr. Carteron has been appointed ISESCO Ambassador for the Dialogue among Cultures and Civilizations. Among numerous achievements, Mr. Carteron personally organised in April 1994 the last round of negotiations between President Arafat and Minister Peres, allowing the signature of the Cairo accords. |

Nicolas Buzaianu

Mr. Nicolas Buzaianu is a Swiss Businessman. His Group is widely involved around the World, especially in South Eastern Europe in the production and the distribution of Energy. Some of his companies produce Energy Equipments for Power plants.
Mr. Buzaianu chairs the Académie de la Paix and the Council on World Public Affairs. The Council gathers high caliber Businesses in order to stimulate the synergies created by the Forum.

Mr. Carlos Magarinos has been Director General of the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) from 1997 to 2005. Previously he served as National Director for Foreign Trade and from 1993 to 1996 State Secretary for Industry and Mining of Argentina during the first term of President Carlos Menem. In 1996 he was appointed Economic and Trade Representative of Argentine in Washington with a rank of Ambassador and State Secretary. In 2000, he was nominated as Chairman of the High-Level Committee on Programmes of the United Nations System Chief Executives Board for Coordination. Mr. Magarinos is currently Senior Associate Member at the University of Oxfod (St Antony’s College) while developing and directing the World Forum for the Global Governance in London.
Mr. Magarinos was presented with the PRIX DE LA FONDATION by HSH PRince Albert II of Monaco.

Lucien Abenhaïm

Dr. Abenhaim received his M.D. from Paris-XI University, his doctorate in Information Sciences (risk, information and decision-making in Public Health) from EHESS (École des Hautes Etudes en Sciences Sociales - Institute of Social Sciences Graduate Studies) and his Master of Science in Experimental Medicine from McGill University, Montreal (Canada). He was Director of research projects and scientific and technical director at the Institute for Research in Health and Workplace Safety (IRSST) of Quebec(Canada). He held a research appointment at the National Institute of Health and Medical Research (INSERM) from 1985 to 1989. He was Professor at the Medical Faculty of McGill University in Montreal 1989-1998. Dr. Abenhaim has been Professor of Epidemiology and Biostatistics at McGill University and has directed the Center for Clinical Epidemiology and Public Health Research since 1991. More recently he served as Chief Medical Officer at the Ministry of Public Health (France).

Terence Brown

Mr. Brown has graduated in Business Studies (Honours). From 1973 to 1978 he was a member of the Industrial Development Authority, in charge of negotiating New Industry projects in Ireland. He joined the European Investment Bank (EIB) in 1978 at the Directorate for Lending Operations outside the European Union. In 1983 he became Head of Coordination for all operations outside the European Union and from 1986 to 1990, he was Head of EIB Lending Operations in the Middle East and Yugoslavia. From 1990 to 1996 he was Head of the Bank’s operations in Central and Eastern Europe as well as, from 1991, Alternate Director of the EIB on the Board of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD). Mr Brown served as Head of Credit Risk from 1996 to 2000 and as such established the first independent Credit Risk Department in the EIB. From 2000 to 2001 he served as Director General for Lending Directorate Central Europe, covering Italy, Germany, Austria, Greece, the Accession Countries of Central and Eastern Europe, as well as Cyprus and Malta. Since 2000 he has been Alternate Director of the EIB on the Board of the European Investment Fund (EIF), and since 2001 Director General Lending Operations of the EIB.

Jean-Louis Bruguiere

Mr. Bruguière is a Senior Judge specialised in the fight against terrorism and descendant from a long line of Magistrates (eleven generations). He became Examining Judge in Evreux then Paris and was nominated First Examining Judge. Mr. Bruguière studied at the “Institut d’Etudes Politiques” of Paris then at the “Ecole Nationale de la Magistrature”. He has been appointed Anti-terrorism Expert at the Council of Europe and is the central coordinator for all terrorism affairs in France. He has given numerous Conferences on the theme of Homeland Security in France and abroad, notably in the United States and Canada. Mr. Bruguière was awarded PRIX DE LA FONDATION.

William Dab

Dr. Dab has been both a hospital physician (Hôpitaux de Paris) and an Epidemiologist. He is a specialist in Public Health with a doctorate in biostatistics, medical data processing and public health.
He has always been in the public service, working at the Ile-de-France Regional Observatory of Health, at the National School of Public Health, and at the Medical Studies Department of the Electricity and Gas Companies of France (EDF & GDF). He was appointed Director of the Office of the Chief Medical Officer of France from 1999 to 2001 then Chief Medical Officer of the Ministry of Public Health (France). He also directed the public health and occupational health section at the Cabinet of the French Minister of Public Health.

Omar Massalha

Mr. Omar Massalha was born in Palestine. He is graduated in Social and Clinical Psychology and specialised with a PhD in Law and Development. He started his career as a psychologist and journalist. From 1978 to 1980, he was the Deputy Director of the PLO (Palestinian Liberation Organisation) Office in Paris. He was then appointed as Ambassador, Permanent Observer of Palestine to UNESCO until 1993, when he occupied the position of Director of the Office of the Director-General of ALECSO (Arab League Educational, Cultural and Scientific Organization) in Tunis. From 1994 to 1999, Mr. Massalha was Director, Co-ordinator of UNESCO Programme for Palestine. Since 1999, he is Director of the Division of Relations with International Organizations (Governmental, Intergovernmental, Non-governmental Organizations and Foundations) at UNESCO. He is a specialist on Palestine and the Dialogue between Civilizations.

Peter Medgyessy

Mr. Medgyessy is graduated from the University of Budapest in politics and economy. He started his career at the ministry of Finance in 1966. In 1982, he was appointed Deputy Minister of Finance and Minister of Finance in 1987. Soon, he became Deputy Prime Minister responsible of economic affairs at the time of the change of regime. He then occupied the positions of President and Director General in the French Paribas Bank in Hungary and in the Hungarian Investment and Development Bank. In 1996 he was appointed Minister of Finance in the Social Democratic Liberal Government. From 1998 until 2001, he was the Chairman of the Board of Directors of Inter Europa Bank and Vice-President of Atlasz Insurance Ltd. From 2002 to 2004 he was Prime Minister of Hungary in the Social Democratic Liberal coalition. Since 2004, as Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary at Large, he has been heading international missions assigned by the Hungarian Government.

Mr. Sfeir was born in Lebanon. He is a Lebanese journalist, political scientist and writer who lives in France. He is the President of the "Centre d’Etudes et de Réflexions sur le Proche Orient" in Paris (France) and Founder & Director of "Les Cahiers de l’Orient" since 1985 which aim to provide scientific and thoughtful articles on the Arab and Muslim World. Mr. Sfeir was in charge of the Foreign department at "L’Orient – Le Jour" the only French daily in the Middle-East. In 1977 he participated to the creation of "J’informe" and until 1989 he was a journalist at the most important French daily and weekly newspapers (La Croix, Pèlerin, Le Point, l’Evènement du Jeudi etc.). He contributed to famous French Journals (Etudes, Esprit, Afrique et Asie Moderne, Politique Internationale). He is a frequent commentator on TV and radio and published 5 books on the Arab and Muslim World out of which the "Atlas des Religions".

Denise Sorasio

Mrs. Sorasio is in charge of criminal justice co-operation, harmonisation of criminal legislation, prevention of and fight against petty crime and organised crime). Her duties also cover the justice and home affairs section of the enlargement and of relations with third countries. She entered the European Commission in 1973 when she passed the open competition and was a Member of the Legal Service from 1973 to 1986 in various teams (personnel, administration and budget; agriculture and fisheries; transport). In 1986, she became Legal Adviser and covered all institutional and general matters such as the implementation of the Single Act and the Treaty of the European Union, the interinstitutional procedures, the Commission’s decision-making procedures, and the relations between institutions. Mrs. Sorasio also represented the Commission before the Court of Justice in a number of cases and carried out a secondment in European Parliament where she was Director at the Private Office of the President from 1997 to 1998 and then Head of the Private Office of the President from 1998 to 1999.

Daniel Warner

Mr. Warner is of US nationality and has a PhD in Political Science from the Graduate Institute of International Studies in Geneva. He has lectured in the most prestigious universities around the world and published extensively on ethics, refugees, US foreign policy, international law and international relations theory. He has served as an advisor to International Organisations (ILO, UNHCR and NATO) and as a consultant to the Ministries of Foreign Affairs and Defense of Switzerland. He is a frequent commentator on television and radio and his editorials have appeared in the International Herald Tribune and the Financial Times. Mr. Warner established the Program for the Study of International Organisations, which is an interface between academics and policy-makers. He is currently Deputy Director of the Graduate Institute of International Studies in Geneva.
