WOMEN'S RIGHTS IN KURDISTAN : exceptional business lunch hosted by the Global Network for Rights & Development

In the framework of the African Women's Forum, the Global Network for Rights and Development (GNRD) hosted a business lunch to present GNRD’s latest work on Women’s rights during the 26th session of the Crans Montana Forum in Brussels on Friday, 12 June 2015.

Mrs. Anne-Marie Lizin, Chairperson of GNRD-W and Honorary Speaker of the Belgium Senate, welcomed the participants who included Ms. Lilyana Pavlova, Minister of Regional Development, Bulgaria; Mrs. Farida Allaghi, Ambassador of Libya to the European Union; Mrs. Marleen Temmerman, Director of Reproductive Health and Research, World Health Organisation and other distinguished guests from more than 15 countries. Mrs. Lizin then gave the floor to a representative from GNRD-Brussels who presented GNRD’s mission and its work to protect and promote human rights worldwide.

Ms. Rhodi Mellek, a member of Syria’s Democratic Union Party (PYD), who participated in GNRD’s recent mission to Kurdish areas of Iraq and Syria, then presented GNRD’s mission report on Women’s rights situation in the areas and emphasised the plight of Syrian refugees. After Ms. Mellek’s intervention, the floor was opened for discussion on the situation of Women’s rights in various countries.
